Guides / Startup and performance
Measure PC performance changes
Use repeatable startup, storage and application tests before claiming improvement.
What this guide covers
This page answers one specific Startup and performance task. It does not assume that a cleanup result proves a faster or safer computer. Registry, privacy, startup, storage and deletion operations have different risks and recovery paths.
Before making changes
Back up files that cannot be replaced, record the current Windows build and application settings, and create a restore point when system settings or the registry may change. For encrypted or synced data, confirm the recovery key and remote copy separately.
Recommended workflow
- Define the problem. Measure disk use, startup time or the exact application symptom before cleaning.
- Review every category. Do not accept a large item count as proof that all findings should be removed.
- Change one group at a time. Start with temporary files; treat registry and secure-deletion actions separately.
- Keep recovery options. Preserve program backups and Windows recovery access until validation is complete.
- Verify the outcome. Reboot, open affected applications, confirm sign-ins and compare the original measurement.
Interpreting the result
Use repeatable startup, storage and application tests before claiming improvement. Results vary by Windows build, storage type, installed applications and selected rules. Freeing disk space is directly measurable; broad promises of universal speed improvements are not.

Testing method and primary sources
We separate observable cleanup results from performance claims, record Windows edition and storage type, review the selected scan categories, create recovery options, and verify disk space, startup behavior and application state after each change.
